Re: Twins season redux

Glad they got the Molitor contract done. Would have been terrible optics not to bring him back. Even for Falvine.

Re: Is Parise that important?

I don't want to be over-dramatic, but this is getting scary. What's he going to do when we're in the meat of the season and they're playing every other night?? Shut it down, take the season, get 100% right. Stop trying to be a hero. Because you're a hero with 8 more seasons on your fucking contract.

Re: 8 Forwards

How much blame does Chuck wear for this? I don't blame him for the injuries. But we were very close to the cap to begin with. On one hand, if he hadn't filled the roster and spent to the cap we would have crushed him for that. On the other hand, he gambled (by being that close to the cap) and now it...

Russo: Suter didn't like playing with Dumba

On his last podcast with Jim, they strongly hinted that Suter was the one who pulled the plug on being paired with Dumba, not Boudreau. With that kind of behavior, this guy should win the fucking Norris every year to back it up.

Re: Is Parise that important?

They demonstrated a lot of Parise's style of play last night. Good net front, below the dots, below the goal line work. So, does he convert more of those opportunities? If so, then they miss him. If not, then they don't. The problem is that he's still taking up cap space right now.

G1: Loss 4-2 @ DET

Very, very, very predictable outcome based on how that game went. Dominate early, can't finish, fail on PP, then give them a 5:3. Hope that was more "it's one game" than harbinger of the season.

Twins season redux

So, what do you think about this season? I'm happy. To me the season was a success before they made it to the WC play-in game. They had a low bar, but they got over it, and they seem to have some good pieces in place for the immediate future.

Re: Extending Koivu

I'm not debating they had to re-sign him. I'm okay with 2 years. I would have preferred a smaller cap hit on the new deal. I'll live with the cap hit he got.

Re: Tortorella

As the younger kids continue to get into the league (next year's draft class was born in 2000, BTW, if you wanted to feel old), I think the old school tough coaches are going to have to adapt, or go join Keenan in Siberia.

heading into contract seasons for all of them, what are some comps that both sides will use to present their cases?

well said, and I agree. Maybe he's cultivating a salty curmudgeon persona. But, unless you couple that with victories, that act wears thin quickly.

Former NHL team exec roasts analytics

Fun read from The Athletic. They got Frank Provenzano (former NHL team exec) to pen "letters" to everyone involved in training camp. https://theathletic.com/103855/2017/09/17/provenzano-letters-to-everybody-in-nhl-training-camps/ They're funny and even a little insightful. But this was my ...

Zimmer salty in post game presser

He got pissed because the press was asking about Bradford's immediate prognosis, apparently. I thought it was a fair line of questioning, given they'd just lost and the offense was acutely ineffective in the process.

Is he justified in being annoyed?

1. Suter L 2. Spurgeon R 3. Brodin L 4. Dumba R -------------- 5. Olofsson L 6. Reilly L __________ 7. Quincey L 8. Murphy R I have Quincey in the 7 hole only because I think the team wants both Reilly and Olof to win a spot out of camp. But, Reilly has waiver protection, so even if he does make it,...

So we divested $9.6M, and spent $7.475M on their "replacements".

We signed Cullen for $1M

Granlund went from $3M to $5.75M
Nino went from $2.66M to $5.25M

His last contract was $2.25 I think. If he improves, I like the four years. If not, he's still cheaper than Pommer?

LOL. It's a crazy workout, and an interesting concept. I guess you're building lung capacity? I don't know what game scenario it mimicks or reproduces, though?

I can't go 5 years for Mikko, either. But if he'd take 3 at $3-4 I might be able to get on board with that. Basically the Staal deal. Looking forward to the Dubs-Bergy cage match!

Farmer: Good point about size. Wasn't that one of the things that Fletcher mentioned with Russo at the Fair? I'm intrigued by Foligno. I like that he's in town and working out/skating with the guys even w/o a contract.

Dubs you and I have talked about this, but hopefully Woods is a calming influence on BB, where maybe Stevens didn't have the ability to be that presence simply because he hasn't known BB as long as Woods has.

Re: Russo leaving the Strib - so what now?

I'm pretty sure it does, Mike. So, does that mean that he beat us, THEN he joined us? I don't think that's how it's supposed to work.
